On The Fifth Day, She Felt Slightly Human

  1. I stopped at that same little store by the side of the road. A lot of hikers kept going. There were farm fresh eggs and I boiled a few up and ate them plus other items. It was such a cool place to stop. I’m so glad you are feeling better. I think your pace is okay. I was at Upper Goose Pond around August 2 and finished the trail Sept 21st.

I can’t imagine how scary loosing the trail without your pack was. Yikes. I hope you were able to stop at the Cookie Lady’s place to pick blue berries. Just down from the trail at mile1559.2. You pick and weigh and eat. Yum.

I also found people less friendly if I hadn’t seen them before. Or they had traveled the whole way together and weren’t as inclusive.

Just have fun and be safe. I’m sending prayers for endurance.

    1. Thanks for sharing your time frame with me. That makes me feel a bit better. I didn’t stop at the cookie lady’s. That was the day I was expecting bad rain in the afternoon so I decided to press on.

I also appreciate your perspective on people being less friendly. I have some speculations on why the SOBOS are like that, mainly, they think I’m a Silverback. 😂 I think the NOBOs must just be tired…or maybe they think I am a weirdo.

  2. I’m so glad you’re feeling better, Kara–and I think the MA photos are the best so far.

Your odyssey has inspired me to write a pome: **

The shades of night were falling fast
As through an Appalach’n village passed
A girl, who bore ‘mid swamp and ice
A banner with the strange device,
    “Ehrlichia!”

    **apologies to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

    1. 😂 I love it!!! 💕 Thank you for the compliment on the pics. I wish I could see them better! It’s so hard to tell on this tiny I phone. There are so many I don’t post, because I just can’t see them well. This time, I just posted them all!

  3. I’m still praying for you (and Bud), sounds like you need it most. All the bad stuff happens in the night, but…..Praise the Lord, joy commeth in the morning. God loves you and I know He’s watching over you.
    I love you,
    Dad

  4. Rebound, I told you I would start a blog, and at last I have. It’s helenandmark.blog. Not meaning to hijack your post here, but I’m not sure how to contact you otherwise. I’m a baby blogger! I’m learning!
