Just a quick post tonight, because it’s way past my bedtime. There is always so much to do when you come in to town, and time flies so quickly!
One of my friends drove all the way to Pennsylvania to do Trail Magic for the thru hikers, and she went out of her way to do it at a place and time when she could see me!
Melissa and her husband Brooks drove all the way from Kansas City!
Melissa and I met online shortly before I made my first thru hike attempt through my trail journal. We have actually met in real life and hiked together near my house. (…and I hope there will be more hikes in the future!)
Melissa is planning a thru hike of the A.T. In the future, and she hopes to do ‘The Triple Crown’ which will include the Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail. She also works at R.E.I.!
Their Trail Magic included all kinds of incredible snacks and drinks, and it was enjoyed and appreciated by the thru hikers that came by. They even thought to bring freezer ziplocks, which hikers use for everything!
Melissa gave me personal trail magic of Smart Wool socks! I love getting new socks at home. They are so soft and feel so nice. Getting new socks as a hiker is pure BLISS! Hiker socks get so stinky, hard and stiff after a while. It was so nice to get these! I love the color. You can’t tell in the picture, but It’s deep purple with multicolored stripes.
She also gave me a sample of coffee to try! I’m having trouble waiting until the morning!😂 Doesn’t this sound inviting? It’s coffee blended with coconut cream!
Melissa even gave me two hugs, in spite of the fact that I smelled like a dead baby Sasquatch. (I said ‘ baby ‘ because I don’t think I smelled quite as bad as a full grown Sasquatch.) Melissa and Brooks were driving to Niagara Falls, so they didn’t stay long, but they drove me to my motel, even though I smelled bad.
Thank you, Melissa and Brooks, for your kindness. This day will be amongst my favorite trail memories! It was so good to see you!
I’m doing a slackpack tomorrow, and if I have time when I get back, I’ll try to do another post to catch you up on what has happened since Harper’s Ferry!
