We have had two sisters who are doing a section hike join us here in the cabin, as well as a young guy who is thru-hiking. This place is feeling pretty crowded. They all ‘blew up’ their backpacks like we did when we first got here. The place is small, but all you want to do when you first come off the trail and to a hostel or cabin is take off shoes, jackets and dig in your pack for food, etc. It’s hard to know where to put stuff. It just goes everywhere.
We have had snow flurries off and on for most of the day, and then the wind started. It has been howling! We heard a rumor that there is going to be a wind chill of minus 15!
You will also be glad to know that we got a text from the other three girls that they made it to Unicoi Gap, which is about 14 miles! That is a lot for this early stage of the hike. That is where Mousy left her car and she drove them all to a hotel.
We ordered food from a delivery service. It was from a Tex-Mex restaurant. That was the highlight of the day. Yes. I ate the whole thing…chimichanga, rice, beans, guacamole, and even the lettuce garnish. The new people came in right as our food arrived. They heated water immediately to make their Mountain House meal, all the while talking about how good our food looked and smelled! They ate their dehydrated meal and now I hear them downstairs ordering food! 😂
The rest of the time I have been bored out of my skull!!! I’m more than ready to hike again. I am out of here tomorrow. The owner will shuttle us back to Hogpen Gap. The earliest he can take us is around 9:00.
Hope you all are staying warm!
Until next time…
