I apologize in advance, but my pics are not loading on my blog. I don’t know why. I’m making my post without pics.
I had been keeping tabs on the weather before I left. As the time for my departure drew near, it looked more and more like my starting date was going to have brutal temps, with highs not getting out of the 30’s and lows in the 20’s.
I decided to book a room at Amicalola Lodge for that day, and start hiking the following day. Temps are supposed to warm up quickly. I’m really glad I made this decision because it is extremely cold and the winds are high, so the low in the 20’s will also have a wind chill with it. Also, after my all-day flight, and not getting to Raid’s house till after 11:00 (bed after midnight) I was exhausted.
Raid and her husband are good friends and exceptional hosts. My .flight didn’t arrive till 9:30 p.m. And then had to wait a long time to be able to park. They live over an hours drive from the Atlanta airport. I’m so grateful to them.
Raid is again, my very first Trail Angel. She made an EggMcMuffin for me this morning, had fuel for my stove since I can’t fly with fuel, gave my pack a ‘shake-down’ and drove me to Amicalola Falls today.
I registered at the Visitor’s Center. I’m Thru-Hiker Number 1,044!
My room is very nice! They filmed (or depicted) scenes from this lodge in the movie, “A Walk In The Woods”.
Im excited about starting my hike tomorrow. It feels good to finally be here and to have all of the prep behind me. I’m also feeling a little nervous about beginning this big adventure, but it’s in a much different way this time. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
I’m having trouble loading Facebook so it looks like I won’t be on there much. I’ll try again at next stop. Bud will make updates there and I’ll post my blogs there. If you have a choice of where to make comments to blog posts, it’s preferable to make them on my blog site since I don’t know if I’ll be able to read on FB.
Don’t forget that I’m an hour ahead of most of you!
