Amicalola Falls

  1. Wow, are you doing the approach trail? Did you do it last time? The falls are beautiful. I did visit them after my hike last year but the past storms did a number on all those stairs. Are they back open again?
I am so excited for you. I have another friend hitting the trail this year, CHOCOHALIC. She is starting from Woods Hole in VA and heading south. I plan to meet up with her somewhere along the trail so maybe I’ll see you out there. That would be so awesome. Last year I met two friends on the AT that I had met on previous hikes and it brings such joy to met them again on trail.

    1. I would love to see you any time, and I hope to meet Chocoholic! I didn’t do the approach trail last time. This time I started at the lodge and skipped the steps. I’m glad I did this. I think they are encouraging people to start at Amicalola this year…maybe to spread people out and lessen the impact on the trail since more and more people hike each year. I’ve seen so many people this year with knee problems!

  2. That tag makes it all official. Do you get to keep it after you finihs the trail? If so, what a cool souvenier!

Do not worry about your pictures. I think they’re wonderful no matter what you think of thme! Just to see where you’ve been is awesome and wow, that is one view (first picture used)! I need to remember this whenever I travel. If I enjoy viewing pictures like these, then I know others may too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Be safe! And, enjoy your hike. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. What is even worse is when you spell your word correctly and ‘spellcheck’ changes it to a different word that completely destroys the meaning of your sentence. Technology and me … not good friends!

  3. Oh…your pictures did post to the blog and they look great.
I hope you post more than you did last time. I know it’s hard typing on the phone, but you write so well and would love to follow you closer.
What are you carrying for electronics? Do you have Verizon?

    1. Thank you, Amy. It’s an old phone and even with a recharger, I constantly worry about battery. I don’t write at all while on the trail. Then, sometimes, the WiFi where I am staying isn’t worth a flip and I have the dickens of a time trying to get pics to load. FB is frustrating as well. I probably won’t go there much and leave it to Bud to update there. It’s to hard to navigate comments there.

    1. I hope I can live up to your expectations this time! It’s so hard to write on an I phone with two thumbs when you have so many other things to do in town. I enjoy documenting everything though. I’m glad you are following!

  6. Psa 85 tells us that our Lord sends his righteousness before us. That is my prayer for you. To walk and see God’s nature from the trail your on has got to be AWESOME! Enjoy as much as you can and be steadfast and safe in the rest.

    1. Thank you so much for your prayers and your encouragement. Hiking a long distance trail and living in the woods is one of the most empowering and awesome things I’ve ever done and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to try it again. I wish everyone could do it at least once in their lifetime. It is impossible to see this beauty and not lift your hands in praise, and say, “Thank you, Lord!”

    1. They say you are never truly alone on the AT unless you want to be, but yes, I started alone. It’s best to pick your hiking partner on the trail-one who has the same hiking philosophy and pace. Thank you for following!
